An Interview with Team GB’s Tim Abeyie

How has your career as a professional athlete helped you motivate clients?

As a professional athlete a lot of motivation comes from yourself. You might have a coach, but it has to ultimately come from you. No one’s there getting you out of bed in the morning or anything like that…


I began strength training with Tim in May 2016 for a period of three months. During that time I have noticed a marked improvement in all areas of my fitness. My personal best squat has increased from 60kg to 95kg, and I have increased from a 60kg barbell hip thrust up to 105kg. I have generally become stronger in all areas in the time that I have been training with Tim and I have learnt new exercises which I would have never tried before. For example, performing different variations of jumps/squat jumps to improve on the explosive power required to perform heavy squats.

I have always been gym shy, stemming from the fact that I’ve never known what I’m doing and gyms can be daunting places! I began on Tim’s 6 week plan following a free consultation and a chat about what I should be eating to help the process. Tim is easy to get in touch with and it very flexible around my working hours. We do something different in every session, keeping it interesting, and I’ve gained in strength, which was my goal. I would go as far to say I was pathetic before Tim whipped me into shape in a relatively short time!
